Description
Gomphrena ‘Pink Gem’ (Gomphrena flaccida) is an attractive Australian native annual that will add instant colour to your patio or garden. It produces masses of neon pink-purple flower heads (about 10-20 mm in diameter) which remain on the plant for months, and contrast nicely with its lush bright green foliage.
Uses: Best grown as an annual through the warmer months, Ideal for mass plantings, rockeries, borders, cottage gardens or containers, attracts butterflies. Prefers an open position in full sun and a well-drained potting mix or soil. Requires moderate watering once established.
Flowering: Late summer through to autumn
Habit: Plants grow to about 40 cm high by 30 cm wide
Care: For pots, use a good quality free-draining premium grade potting mix. For beds, cultivate the soil before planting. Dig a hole twice the width and depth of container, gently remove the plant from its container, and place the plant in the hole so that the pot soil is level with the surrounding ground level. Fill hole firmly and water well, even if the soil is moist. Do not over-water during the establishment phase. Avoid covering the crown of the plant with mulch or soil when back filling. Do not prune at planting, instead wait until the plant has established. Lightly prune and add a slow release fertiliser every 3 months at the lowest recommended rate for flowering ornamentals to encourage a new flush of growth and flowers.
