Gomphrena ‘New Empress’ (Gomphrena leontopodioides) is a highly versatile Australian native plant that will add year round colour to your patio or garden. It produces masses of globular purple flower heads (about 35 mm in diameter) which remain on the plant for months, contrasting nicely with its grey-green foliage.

Uses: Highly versatile, ideal for mass plantings, rockeries, cottage gardens, or containers providing long lasting paper daisly-like flowers. Best grown as an annual in the direr months. Highly versatile, ideal for mass plantings, rockeries, borders, cottage gardens or containers.

Flowering: Flowers continuously year round.

Habit: Long lived annual, plants grow to about 30 cm high by 30 cm wide.

Care: Prefers an open position in full sun and a well-drained potting mix or soil. Requires minimal watering once established. Lightly prune and add a slow release fertiliser every 4-6 months to encourage a new flush of growth and flowers. Drought tolerant once established, survives light frost. Regularly prune after each flush of flowers to remove old flowering stems and apply a standard slow release fertiliser every 3 months to encourage a bushy habit and repeat flowering.
