Alyogyne Aussie Purple TM

Alyogynes are fast growing native shrubs closely related to Hibiscus. They occur naturally only in Australia. Aussie Purple TM produces a brilliant display of bright purple flowers in spring to summer, making it a colourful addition to native or cottage style gardens. The attractive foliage of this plant is a feature throughout the year. Aussie Purple TM  is a cross between Alyogyne huegelii  and A. hakeifolia making it more durable than many straight species Alyogynes, particularly tolerating more humid areas.

The attractive foliage of this plant is a feature throughout the year. Aussie Purple TM  is a cross between Alyogyne huegelii  and A. hakeifolia making it more durable than many straight species Alyogynes, particularly tolerating more humid areas.

Use: Very quick growing and fast to establish shrub for a full sun situation. Suited to a wide range of soil types, provided they are well drained. Plant as a feature shrub in open exposed sites in the garden or in a large tub.  Very drought tolerant once established and tolerates light frost. Plant against a wall in frost prone areas.

Flowering: A massed display in Spring to Summer.

Habit: Medium size shrub to about 1.5 to 2.0 m high and 1.5 to 2.0 m wide.

Care: Water well at planting and gradually reduce watering during establishment. Prune by one-third after a flush of flowers and fertilise with a complete slow-release fertiliser formulated for native plants once a year in early spring.
